Biography


Cellist, Jisoo Ok has performed throughout North and South America, Europe, Korea and New Zealand as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. Ms. Ok has appeared in venues and festivals such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, J.F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Concerti di Mezzogiorno at Spoleto Festival in Italy and Golandsky Institute International Piano Festival.

Ms. Ok has closely collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Pablo Ziegler, bandoneonist Hector Del Curto and clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera. Recent highlights include performances at the Miami International Piano Festival, Symphony Space, Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts with Pablo Ziegler; Copa Fest in Brazil, Bay Chamber Music Series, Houston International Festival, Three Stages at Folsom Lake College and Kilbourn Hall at Eastman School of Music with Hector Del Curto; and SummerStage at Central Park with Paquito D'Rivera and Limon Dance Company.

In 2003, Ms. Ok was the winner of the New Juilliard Ensemble´s Concerto Competition which led to the performance of Jonathan Keren´s Concerto for Cello and Chamber Orchestra in Alice Tully Hall. She also premiered Matthew Kajcienski´s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra with the Manhattan Virtuosi Orchestra at the Great Hall of Cooper Union.

Ms. Ok has won top prizes in the National Symphony Orchestra´s Young Soloist Competition, the New Juilliard Ensemble Concerto Competition, the Soratin International Competition, the Westpac Chamber Music Competition, the National Sheraton Music Competition, the Performing Arts Competitions Association of New Zealand´s "Young Performer of the Year" award.

Jisoo Ok's recording appearance includes critically acclaimed CD, Eternal Tango which she co-produced with her husband, Hector Del Curto in 2007 and Rojo Tango with Erwin Schrott released in 2011 on Sony Classical.

Originally from Korea but grew up in New Zealand, Ms. Ok began cello studies at age eleven after studying violin. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School studying with Bonnie Hampton and Fred Sherry and she received chamber music coaching from Itzhak Perlman and Robert Mann. She has participated masterclasses for cellists such as Laurence Lesser, Janos Starker, Bernard Greenhouse, Paul Katz and Anner Bylsma.
